Cinerama Filmtheater is in danger of closing at the end of 2025. The film theater is a beloved place with a rich history, deep -rooted in the city. Rotterdam must cherish what she has, making places with history also the city. Almost all old cinemas have already disappeared, Cinerama with the unique architecture, decor and atmosphere should really stay, what it is like and at this place. That is why we call on the municipality to stop Cinerama for a new -build project and to redevelop this place in a different way.
Prevent short-term demolition & preserve the cinema function – Cinerama will, at least for now, remain open temporarily.
A deal focused on long-term preservation instead of a rental contract – to avoid the risk of a death trap scenario – there is still no guaranteed sustainable future for Cinerama.
A “Cinerama of the people of Rotterdam,” through collaboration with various investors and crowdfunding – still unclear
